February 27, 2008 - Hayden's Starmeter is rising - Internet Movie Database Pro has Jumper at number 1 on the Moviemeter and Hayden is at number 2 on the Starmeter.

Starmeter and Moviemeter rankings provide a snapshot of popular movies and people based on the searches of millions of IMDb users. Updated weekly, these rankings also graph the popularity of people and movies over time and determine which events affect public awareness.

So FYI......Some of the events affecting public awareness, according to IMDB were Hayden's appearance on Entertainment Tonight dated February 12th and Jumper reaching the top spot at the boxoffice in it's opening weekend among other events.

February 26, 2008 - Jumper worthy of cult status - "Critically speaking, cult films are usually pretty bad. Some are artistic gems whose quirkiness failed to catch on at the box office. "Blade Runner" is a prime example.

But most are just plain awful, rife with tired concepts, poor acting and laughable B-level directing. Yet, even among the bad, a coveted few still exist that are capable of transgressing strong criticism to live on in beloved cult classic infamy. "Jumper" is destined to be one of those few. It is certainly no "Highlander," but that still leaves a lot of room for fun." Read more...

February 26, 2008 - Christensen Leaps Into New Realm With 'Jumper' - "Other than the stuff in Cairo, everything else we more or less were able to do for real," Christensen said in a recent @ The Movies interview, referring to an awe-inspiring computer-generated shot atop a sphinx in Egypt.

That's because, he added, the last thing director Doug Liman ("The Bourne Identity," "Mr. & Mrs. Smith") wanted was to make the film "in front of a blue screen where he was interchanging backgrounds."

"He really wanted us to go to the locations and let the environment have an effect on us. So, everything that you see is there," said Christensen, who has scenes spanning across the world from Tokyo to the Roman Coliseum to New York City. "Of course, we obviously weren't falling from the Empire State building, but we filmed a little bit on top of it." Read more...

February 26, 2008 - Jumper's Stellar International Box Office - "Jumper, the SF feature film starring Hayden Christensen and Samuel L. Jackson may have had only a mediocre showing in the U.S. but is doing a stellar performance on the international market. The sci-fi thriller ruled the international box office for a second weekend, earning an additional $22 million from 40 markets. It finished No. 1 in at least nine markets, including the U.K. Its foreign total now stands at $61.2 million, more than $5 million better than its U.S. accumulated totals since opening day." February 21, 2008 - Jumper Fans Jump the Critics - "Hayden is appealing as the "every-man", down-on-his-luck character, David Rice, who is transported from ordinary to extraordinary circumstances when he finds he can literally teleport from bullies and survive by taking not just what he needs but what he wants. Like the character says, "I was 15. Come on, what would you have done?" But David's luxurious and selfish lifestyle can only last so long before karma happens and all hell breaks loose with David being forced to turn his attention to things other than himself.

Movie goers jumped ahead of the critics and decided for themselves about Jumper and went out and saw the movie. In answer to the critics: "Jumper" isn't a big brain teaser. It's not hard to understand. Most of the complained about "unanswered questions" in the story are there in the movie if you're paying even a little attention. The movie did hold some things back and in that respect it was a lot like director Doug Liman's "The Bourne Identity" and its sequels. Jumper's ending and John Powell's totally cool music score espcially at the end of the movie gave the feeling of more to come. Read more....

February 19, 2008 - Final Boxoffice Totals - The final totals for the weekend's domestic boxoffice is in. Jumper came in at number 1 with $32,092,991 with a more than comfortable lead over the number 2 movie, The Spiderwick Chronicles, with $24,740,537. Step Up 2 The Streets grabbed the number 3 spot with $22,125,429.

Jumper now enters the record books, coming in at number 5 in the all time highest grossing boxoffice movies premiering on President's Day weekend. Jumper found an audience despite being trashed by critics, earning $67.6 million worldwide in it's first week in release.

February 19, 2008 - Hayden in Details Magazine - Read a great interview and photoshoot in the March 2008 issue of Details magazine.

"But what became of Hayden Christensen? If youre looking for him now, you might start in the middle of nowhere. The closest town is a hamlet called Zephyr, which sounds like you need a half-orc guide in order to find it, although it turns out to be just a couple of hours north of Toronto. Christensens retreat is a simple brick 19th-century farmhouse with a brand-new wooden deck. (A power saw rests nearby, next to some freshly cut timber.) Two cars sit buried under thick snow. Christensen answers the screen door in slim jeans, stocking feet, and a loose flannel shirt. He has several days worth of chin scruff, but, at 26, he still looks like he couldnt grow a full beard if he tried. Given the buried vehicles and the whiskers, it seems that hes been camped out here awhile." Read the Interview....

Composer John Powell has written music for animated films (HAPPY FEET, SHREK, ICE AGE: THE MELTDOWN) and comedies (PLUTO NASH, ALFIE, MR. 3000) but is probably best known for his work in the action film genre on such films as MR. Powells work on these action scores seamlessly blends orchestral and electronic elements.

February 18, 2008 - Jumper Reaches $38.3 Million in 5 Days - " The Bourne Identity and Mr. & Mrs. Smith director Doug Liman struck again, as his new sci-fi action-thriller Jumper opened to impressive numbers this holiday weekend.

Over the four-day Presidents' Day weekend, Jumper earned an estimated $31.7 million from 3,428 theaters for an average of $9,247 per location. That makes it the fifth-biggest opening for the weekend ever, trailing just Ghost Rider ($52 million), 50 First Dates ($45.2 million), Daredevil ($45 million) and Constantine ($33.6 million). 20th Century Fox took advantage of Valentine's Day Thursday, opening the pic a day early and allowing the movie to reach $38.3 million in its first five days domestically.

Overseas, it duplicated its domestic success, making $28.2 million at 2,800 theaters in 30 countries, pushing the worldwide total to $66.5 million already. Jumper, starring Hayden Christensen, Samuel L. Jackson, Rachel Bilson and Jamie Bell, was budgeted at around $85 million." Source: Comingsoon.net

February 17, 2008 - Jumper sequel possible - "Jumper' makes the leap to No. 1 - The film, which has series potential, popped to the top of the box office with nearly $40 million, followed by 'Step Up 2 the Streets' and 'Spiderwick.

Two potential film franchises, 20th Century Fox's science-fiction thriller "Jumper" and Paramount Pictures' family fantasy "The Spiderwick Chronicles," opened to solid business over the extended holiday weekend, while Walt Disney Co.'s "Step Up 2 the Streets" kept an established series humming.

"Jumper," starring Hayden Christensen as a man who can teleport himself anywhere and Samuel L. Jackson as a mysterious agent on his trail, was headed for a five-day total of close to $40 million, including Thursday's opening for Valentine's Day.....

The audience for "Jumper," as expected, skewed male and younger than 25, said Bert Livingston, Fox's senior vice president for domestic distribution. Fox and New Regency Pictures, which produced the film for about $85 million, may go ahead with one or more sequels, he said.

"When you do this kind of business, you always have to think about it," Livingston said.

"Jumper" also got off to an encouraging start abroad, taking in $28.2 million and ranking No. 1 in most of its 30 territories. Source: LA Times

February 17, 2008 - Movie goers go contrary to critics - Movie goers, curious to make up their own minds about Jumper, ignored a large number of critics to teleport Jumper to the top of the boxoffice in it's first week in release. Jumper came in at number 1 with Disney's "Step Up 2 the Street" in number 2. Coming in at number 3 was the Spiderwick Chronicles.

Source: Associated Press Weekend estimates for Jumper for Friday through Sunday are at $27.2 million with Fox estimating $33.9 million for the Thursday through Sunday period. There could also be a further boost to the numbers with the upcoming President's day holiday on Monday. Final figures will be confirmed on Tuesday.

February 16, 2008 - Transforming a reluctant hero - "Christensen, best known as Anakin Skywalker in the recent Star Wars movies, said despite being another venture into sci-fi , Rice was different to any other character he's played.

"Although David has become very acclimated to life as a jumper it's a very solitary life because he has this secret he can't share with anyone," he says.

"He has every toy any man could want but he's still insecure and lonely. He really believes that he just wants to be left alone. But I think what's so interesting about David is that he begins to change. He's a very reluctant hero who resists his transformation into one the whole way, which makes him so interesting. The events around him force him to mature, to come clean and face his past as well as his uncertain future." Read more....

February 16, 2008 - Friday Box Office: Jumper $8.2M; Step-Up 2 $6.2M; Spiderwick $4.7M - "Jumper has leapt to an excellent $8.21M on Friday, and it should bound to a solid $34.47M for the Valentines Day through Presidents Day 5-day box office frame. After finishing in a virtual dead heat with Disneys Step Up to the Streets on Thursday, Doug Limans sci-fi adventure pic overwhelmed the competition on Friday. Meanwhile, Step Up 2 received a slight Thursday-to-Friday bump dancing to a $6.25M 2nd day. The low budget sequel to the 2006 surprise hit should reach $28.45M for the 5-day for an anticipated weekend-best PTA of $11,518 per location. Source: /Film.com

February 15, 2008 - Jumper much like first X Men - The overall impression Jumper leaves is much the same as the first X-Men movie: there are plenty of good ideas, and enough going on for a satisfying experience, yet nothing catches or coheres in quite the way you wish. In short, this feels like a good prologue to a bigger event. Heres hoping that, as X-Men did, this leads to a sequel that can lace its precursors loose strands into something spectacular.

Verdict
Its Limans least charismatic action movie and the least developed, but it still packs some cracking action into its brief running time and lays foundations on which a great franchise could be built. Read more.....

February 15, 2008 - Man-child Christensen is growing up - Interview - "Christensen recently bought a 19th-century farm south of Toronto, so he can finally move the things he's been storing at Mom and Dad's. We ask if he kept that rat-tail Jedi braid.

"I did! Only because it was my first 'Star Wars,' and I wanted to keep as much as I could. I got a light saber, of course, and then I had to keep my boots. I keep all my characters' shoes, actually." Read more....

February 14, 2008 - Jumper: Griffins Story hits store shelves nationwide - "Jumper: Griffins Story is the video game based off the film Jumper, the eagerly anticipated science fiction-action-thriller from Twentieth Century Fox and Regency Enterprises. Directed by Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity), and starring Hayden Christensen, Rachel Bilson, Jamie Bell, and Samuel L. Jackson, Jumper premieres in theatres this Thursday, February 14, 2008." Source: Press Release

February 14, 2008 - Jumper' Makes Right Moves - "Sci-Fi Thiller High On Excitement, Short On Explanations - Much like "Bourne Identity," Liman drops us in the middle of this world, and trusts that we'll keep pace as things heat up -- that we'll come to understand the rules governing Rice's jumps across the universe, to appreciate the back story of how his mom abandoned him at a young age and left him wanting to flee from his Michigan home, and to comprehend the war being waged between the likes of Roland and Griffin.

And for the most part, we do. It's an undeniably trippy thing that Rice can do, and we come to appreciate the freedom he feels, unburdened by any concerns of money or geography, and also the emotional distance that accompanies that freedom." Source: My58

February 14, 2008 - A Message by Stephen King - "And speaking of Entertainment Weekly, I saw a great movie last week called Jumper and I cant write about it for them because the executive producer also happens to be the guy who got me the EW gig. It would look like log-rolling. Probably this does, too, but I dont care. It was the fun movie I hoped for last summer when Transformers opened (the only pic I walked out on all year; it offended even my low standards). Jumper is about a picked-on teen who discovers he can teleport. So if youve ever wondered what it would be like to eat lunch on the head of the Sphinx, or take your girlfriend on a make-out expedition into the catacombs below the Roman Coliseum, this is the movie for you. You may have also wondered what Samuel L. Jackson would look like in a 1940s-style bathing cap. If socheck out the do." Source: Stephen King.com

February 13, 2008 - 'Jumper' premiere party hops - "During the after-party for the premiere of "Jumper" on Monday, helmer Doug Liman jumped right in to talk about his hope for a sequel.

"The canvas was so big that I couldn't get everything I wanted into the movie," he said of the film, based on the sci-fi novel by Steven Gould. "The second novel ("Reflex") is actually my favorite."

Asked what attracted him to pic's star Hayden Christensen, Liman immediately replied, "His performance in 'Shattered Glass.' " Read more...

February 9, 2008 - Does a Light Saber Chop Hay, Hayden? - We the fans will be very spoiled as Hayden continues the press junket for Jumper. The media reports are popping up everywhere. Here's another interview. This one from Newsweek.

"What are you working on next?
I'm unemployed right now. But I'm happy to take a little bit of time to go back to the farm and check up on things. I've got a couple pigs up there.

Did you name them, or are you going to eat them, or both?
I named them Buddy and Petunia. I'm not going to eat them! Definitely not. They're miniature puplike pigs that run around the house. They're house pets. I used to love pork, and I can't eat it anymore.

George Clooney used to sleep with his pig.
I don't sleep with my pigs. But we hang out on the couch together and watch "Iron Chef." They're not really interested in watching TV with me. But they're present." Read more...

Christensen recently bought a 19th-century farm south of Toronto, so he can finally move the things he's been storing at Mom and Dad's. We ask if he kept that rat-tail Jedi braid.

"I did! Only because it was my first 'Star Wars,' and I wanted to keep as much as I could. I got a light saber, of course, and then I had to keep my boots. I keep all my characters' shoes, actually."

Shoes?

"Yeah, it's sort of the first bit of my character that I sort of decide on, while I'm figuring them out. Because that's what grounds me and it informs how I walk and how I feel on my feet."

February 7, 2008 - Go on, Jump - "HE IS a big-picture sort of guy. That means he's worried about the planet, is against seal hunts in Canada, is into organic farming on his 80-hectare spread outside Toronto and always remembers his mother's birthday.

But for Hayden Christensen, big pictures also mean blockbuster movies. He played Jedi knight Anakin Skywalker in the most recent Star Wars movies, the prequels Attack Of The Clones (2002) and Revenge Of The Sith (2005). These roles set the stage for those events that we knew 20 years ago were coming: Luke Skywalker's young dad selling out the Republic and becoming Darth Vader. Sounds like a subtle cue for, say, a movie about teleporting." Read more....

On one side of a vaunted cultural divide were Doug Liman, director of the coming movie Jumper, about a young man who discovers he can transport himself anywhere he wants just by thinking about it, and Hayden Christensen, the films star.

On the other were a pair of the institutes physics professors, Edward Farhi and Max Tegmark, experts on the type of physics the movie was purporting to portray, who had been enlisted to view a few scenes from it and talk about science. " Read more...
