As mentioned here in a previous article Worldview also has The Cold filming in Canada this coming winter. Hayden stars as Sean Kotz in The Cold about a group of friends on an annual hunting trip who find themselves snowed in and trying to survive not only the elements but their own fears and paranoia. Native American folklore comes into play when they begin to fear a Wendigo may be hunting them as well.
"There is some early news developing on Iron Circle Picture's The Cold. This film will take on the ancient first nation's legend of the Wendigo, with some members of the story succumbing to cannibalistic urges. If you are not familiar, the Wendigo is an Algonquian myth which could/can transform into human figures. Filming on this feature is expected to begin in the Winter of 2010 (UHM) and Hayden Christensen will star. More details below."
PROJECT DETAILS - "Filming is expected to begin sometime in Winter 2010.

September 21, 2010 - Hayden Talks Vanishing on 7th Street - Moviefone's interview with Hayden and Thandie the day after Vanishing on 7th Street premiered at Midnight Madness at the Toronto Film Festival.
"If you're not afraid of the dark now, you just might be after seeing 'Vanishing on 7th Street.' The new post-apocalyptic thriller by director Brad Anderson ('The Machinist') stars Hayden Christensen, Thandie Newton, John Leguizamo and newcomer Jacob Latimore as a group of survivors trying to figure out how to sustain themselves in a world where everyone has inexplicably vanished."
Moviefone: - Did you have any idea about how you were going to get into character and approach it?
Christensen: - What I liked about the script was the containment of it and how that would allow for real character exploration. We spent a lot of time in that bar. Just Thandie, John, Jacob and myself. And it really felt like we were putting on a play.
Newton: - We had lots of night shoots in the freezing cold. It was like an endurance test. We had a lot of stuff to get through, so it was also everyone very keen to get the work done. So there almost wasn't time to think about how cold it was. I love all of that.
Christensen: - I think it also lends itself to the work. The nature of having to make a movie in such tough conditions in such a short period of time gave us all this sort of frantic feeling that we're just trying to keep up with in the movie. (Read the entire interview at the above link.)
September 21, 2010 - New Takers International Movie Trailer - Hayden and the crew takes the action on the road. - A new trailer has been released for Takers as it prepares to be released in countries around the world starting the first week in October (and Qatar 30-Sep-10).
September 20, 2010 - Vanishing on 7th Street Premiere and Q&A Photos - Larry Richman is a freelance journalist covering independent films and has posted photos from the Q&A for Vanishing on 7th Street at the Toronto International Film Festival and his thoughts on the movie.
"On Sunday, September 12, 2010 I attended the gala World Premiere of Vanishing on 7th Street at the Toronto International Film Festival. Featured in the Midnight Madness section, the sold-out screening was held at the 1300-seat Ryerson Theatre."
"In a chilling theme which would be repeated again and again over the years, the residents of a small town suddenly disappear in the classic Twilight Zone episode Where Is Everybody. Those stories inform some of my film sensibilities to this day, and Vanishing on 7th Street takes that idea and adds elements of horror and post-apocalyptic visions as explored in recent films like I Am Legend and The Road."(Click link above to read more.)
September 17, 2010 - Genre films and Comedies Market Well at TIFF - Genre Films have had a good couple of years at film festivals and the trend seems to be continuing as distributors look to horror and other genres as a good investment. Genre films starring Hayden Christensen include Vanishing on 7th Street still for sale and recently announced in the line-up for the Sitges Film Festival and the upcoming thriller "The Cold" going into production soon.
" "I think it was very reinvigorating," said Celine Rattray, president of Mandalay Vision, which has two films still up for sale, "The Whistleblower" and "Vanishing on 7th Street." "Even though there are less buyers, there has been a lot of buying. I find it very encouraging." And while Rattray agreed that genre films, such as "7th Street," which also played in the festival's midnight section, have a strong hook and built-in audience, she says movies with top-notch celebrities in award-worthy performances can also find a home." "
September 17, 2010 - Vanishing on 7th Street at Sitges Film Festival - Vanishing on 7th Street will be presented at Spain's Sitges Film Festival as part of the Official Fantastic Selection Galas. "The Festival will be screening titles, both national and international, that are on everyone's lips, have picked up awards at other festivals and are anxiously awaited by the general public." The 2010 Sitges Film Festival runs from October 7 - 17 in Sitges, Spain. Vanishing on 7th Street is directed by Brad Anderson and stars Hayden Christensen, Thandie Newton, Jacob Latimore and John Leguizamo.
"In its European premiere SITGES 2010 will also be presenting "Vanishing on 7th Street", the latest film from Brad Anderson, winner of the award for best director at Sitges 2001 for Session 9 and selected with The Machinist at Sitges 2004, where actor Christian Bale picked up the award for best actor. This year, Anderson premieres a movie thats halfway between science fiction and horror.

September 15, 2010 - Toronto Notebook: Thandie Newton & Hayden Christensen - (E! News) - "Though they're stalking the red carpet for Toronto's Midnight Madness program with the creepy Vanishing on 7th Street, Thandie Newton and Hayden Christensen both have happy memories of Toronto.
"Christensen also has a strong affinity for Toronto. "I grew up here, so this is home. I don't get to spend an awful lot of time here, but I feel like I'm a true Torontonian at heart, so it's nice that we have such a great festival here. The city really comes alive for it."
About Vanishing on 7th Street: "As Christensen says, "I enjoy a good scare. But [Vanishing on 7th Street], for me, sort of goes beyond the genre and allows an audience to not be so overly manipulated and really kind of think about what they're watching. This is my type of horror film." " Read all...

September 14, 2010 - Vanishing on 7th Street Red Carpet Interview - Interesting video interviews from the Toronto Film Festival premiere of Vanishing on 7th Street.
Q: What qualities did Hayden bring to the film that made you choose him?
Brad Anderson: An Emotional sort of vulnerability. He sort of plays this guy as a little bit jaded. At the same time he's so good at bringing in the emotional part of it. Hayden is a very thoughtful actor.
Q: Did you learn something from working with Brad Anderson?
Hayden Christensen: You always learn something when you work with a great filmmaker. Brad's a great storyteller and really passionate about figuring the characters out. I really enjoyed working with him. We're probably going to do another film soon.

September 13, 2010 - Hayden Attentive to Fans at TIFF
"Our v. own Hayden Christensen came out to promote his new thriller Vanishing on 7th Street from Director Brad Anderson. The film is about a massive Blackout which causes people to start disappearing in the city and premiered at Ryerson Theatre last night. Upon arriving the Press Conference for the film, the handsome actor told Fans-in-waiting that he'd come out to greet them after. He could also be seen slowly nursing a Tall-sized Coffee from Starbucks during breaks and finally came out after finishing work to take a generous round of photos and do autographs for everybody."
September 13, 2010 - Vanishing on 7th Street Reviews - Below are several reviews of Vanishing on 7th Street. Beware if you're trying to avoid even the smallest spoilers. The reviews describe the movie mostly in general terms but a couple more details have been given away by Brad Anderson in interviews from TIFF that we didn't know before.
"Hayden Christensen (in one of his best performances to date), Thandie Newton, John Leguizamo and the young Jacob Latimore star as a group of strangers who are drawn towards the light of a speakeasy after an unexplained power outage leaves Detroit, and likely the rest of the world, cloaked in darkness that disappears anyone who isn't holding a flashlight, a lighter or something that can keep away the shade. The film plays out almost like a small-scale version of "I Am Legend," minus the CG zombies and putting in their place the creepier echoes of the unknown in the shadows to terrorize the quartet as they escape onto the empty streets around the bar, a safe haven thanks to its persnickety power generator, to try and find a way to prolong their lives and not evaporate into the piles of empty clothes they see around them."
The film is one of those horror movies that features a small group (in this case consisting of Hayden Christensen, Thandie Newton, John Leguizamo and Jacob Latimore) holed up in an enclosed space, trying to survive a dark force, in this literally the darkness, that has seemingly already taken out the rest of society. It's this dark force that preoccupied a good chunk of the Q&A that followed the movie.
Like Anderson predicted, after the screening there was some grumbling from several die-hard horror fans.....But on the other hand, it was hard to argue that the man, whose also directed episodes of "Fringe," had made an effective chiller. One pan across the crowd would reveal girls with hands next to their heads, ready to press their ears (a nod to that successful sound design); guys sunk into their seats in an attempt to create a safe womb; and couples huddled together.

September 12, 2010 - Takers Moves up to Number 2 at Weekend Boxoffice - Though "Takers" is in fewer theaters than last week, the heist film overtook the second spot in it's thrid weekend out behind the new leader "Resident Evil: Afterlife". With a budget of $32 million, Takers has accumulated $47 million in domestic sales. It's hopefully looking good for a prequel with all the guys coming back with more action.

September 12, 2010 - Hayden Christensen at Ultra - Hayden Christensen and Tove Chirstensen celebrated the Toronto International Film Festival last night, hosting a party at Ultra Night Club. Thandie Newton, Hayden's co-star in Vanishing on 7th Street, K-OS and Geoffrey Rush were among the guests. (Thanks to Meyree for the pictures. I'll try to replace the Medium pics with HQ's soon.)
Hayden Christensen used the force (of his celebrity) to give Ultra's DJ a break at his party on Saturday night. At the 29-year-old Thornhill-raised actor's request, Toronto hip-hop artist K-Os commandeered the turntables until the actor made an early exit around 1 a.m.
With a cardboard cut-out of Darth Vader looming in the window of the Adidas store across the street, the real(-ish) Anakin Skywalker and his 37-year-old brother Tove hoisted Belvedere vodka bottles at a party for their production company, Forest Park Pictures. While the stars were on their best behaviour, the crowd was a little rowdy, with one man dancing with a bottle of Belvedere shoved down his pants.
The Brothers Christensen hung out in a roped-off VIP section with Thandie Newton, Hayden's co-star in his TIFF flick Vanishing on Seventh Street, and The King's Speech co-star Geoffrey Rush. Unfortunately, the club's photographer failed to find them for a photo. She sighed as she clicked through her pics. "Just a bunch of drunk people," she said.
September 11, 2010 - Forest Park Party Honoring TIFF - Hayden and Tove's party honoring the Toronto International Film Festival is well underway at Ultra Supper Club in Toronto tonight. K-OS has made it to the party and I hear there is a light rain in downtown Toronto. That might keep people from celebrating on the rooftop bar at Ultra. Trying to keep up with the Tweets and other TIFF news below.

September 11, 2010 - Takers Holding at Number 3 in 3rd Weekend - Takers held at number 3 in boxoffice receipts just behind "The American" on Friday as "Resident Evil: Afterlife" debuted in first place on it's opening day. Machete dropped to number 4. Takers numbers were up slightly even though it is now showing on fewer screens (2,191) this weekend and there is still a lot of buzz on Twitter about the heist film starring Hayden Christensen, Matt Dillon, Idris Elba and Michael Ealy. Interesting review for Takers below.
Better than expected, Takers takes a lot of heist-movie cliches and adds a stylish gloss and efficient pacing. The film doesn't have a lot of surprises and it's not terribly deep, but it's assembled with a confidence - and, more importantly, a competence - that makes it an enjoyable diversion.
Elba plays the leader of a group of extremely good-looking and well-dressed thieves including Paul Walker, Michael Ealy, Chris Brown and Hayden Christensen. Having recently completed a successful job, they are immediately handed another by a former member (rapper Tip "TI" Harris). With a potential $20 million take, it's too tempting a score to pass up - which also means that it's too good to be true. There's also the matter of the two hardboiled detectives (Matt Dillon and Jay Hernandez) on their trail, although they too have their own dilemmas to deal with.
As in most, if not all, heist movies, the problem lies either in the planning or the personnel. Such is the case here. Takers deviates from the formula - but it's best not to divulge the specifics in order to retain what surprise there may be. Suffice to say that things do indeed go wrong, at which point the guns come out and the bodies start dropping. All of a sudden, that good-looking cast isn't so good-looking anymore. Bullets tend to have that effect.
Takers might have been better suited to a R rating, but director John Lussenhop (also one of the screenwriters) milks as much mayhem as he can out of the PG-13 rating. The likable cast brings conviction to stock roles, although a few of them - particularly Zoe Saldana and Johnathon Schaech - barely have time to make an impression. It's also nice to see Steve Harris and Glynn Turman here, lending a little extra heft.

September 8, 2010 - The Dust Settles at the Box Office - The final totals on Tuesday showed Takers coming in at number 3 for the long Labor Day holiday weekend. Even so, the heist film still had the best per screen average taking in more at each location than the top two movies this weekend. The movie also was consistently one of the two most talked about movies on Twitter this past weekend along with Machete. Following Harry Potter and Jackas 3D, Takers has the most followers on Facebook.

September 5, 2010 - Takers Shootout at the Boxoffice Part 2 - If the studio estimates hold for the weekend, Hayden and the crew of "Takers" will come in a close second to George Clooney's "The American". "Takers" pulled ahead of "Machete" on Saturday after the estimates for the three day weekend were posted but still outperformed both new films on a per screen average for the second weekend in a row. There are totals still to be counted for the longer Labor Day holiday weekend which will come in on Monday and finalized on Tuesday. Source
September 4, 2010 - Takers Second Week Box Office Report - Slips to Number 3 - Can "Takers" be the little movie that could and take number 1 for a second weekend in a row? The "Takers" crew, Michael Ealy, Chris Brown, Hayden Christensen, Idris Elba, T.I. and Paul Walker, showed strong numbers during their second week despite coming in second to George Clooney's "The American". "The American" was released on 2,823 screens on Wednesday, Sept. 1st with "Takers" grossing over a million each day on it's original 2206 screens from Monday to Thursday, not far behind the leader.
"Takers" came in third in Friday's boxoffice race, affected by first weekend numbers for "The American" and the debut of "Machete" both in more theaters than "Takers". The other new release this weekend is "Going the Distance" with Drew Barrymore and Justin Long in 3,030 theaters and coming in 5th on Friday. Source: Ropes of Silicon and Box Office Mojo
Don't wait to see "Takers". It's a fun movie and has to be seen in a theater on the big screen to really enjoy all the action and cast of favorites. So make a night of it at the movies with your own crew and have some fun.

September 2, 2010 - Vanishing on 7th Street in Toronto - IM Global, the sales company for Vanishing on 7th Street, has set up shop in Toronto for the Toronto International film Festival. There are also several updates on Vanishing on 7th Street on Facebook including the announcement of a YouTube Channel.
"Long gone are the days of deals all done over dinner at Sotto Sotto. IM Global has rented out the presidential suite of the Hyatt Regency (right next to the new Bell Lightbox) as the setting in which to woo buyers for four films screening at TIFF (Everything Must Go starring Will Ferrell, Vanishing on 7th Street starring Hayden Christensen and John Leguizamo, Insidious and Bunraku). But it's also looking for distributors for such non-festival titles as Skyline 2 and zombie thriller The Bay. It's not the only company setting up official sales operations; many others have booked space at the King Street Hyatt. So long, Yorkville." Source
